Ingredients

  • Apple 1 medium size
  • For filling:
  • dates - 75 gm
  • green chilli 1
  • dry mango powder - 1 tbsp
  • Chaat Masala - 1 tsp
  • pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • For batter:
  • Besan (chick peas flour) - 1 cup
  • cornflour - 1/4 cup
  • chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Ajwain (thymol seeds) a big pinch
  • baking powder - 1/2 tsp
  • oil to deep fry
  • salt to taste

How to Make Khatta Meeta Apple Pakoda

  • Peel and core the apple.
  • Cut into eight slices, length ways.
  • Mince dates and chillies very finely.
  • Mix with rest of the filling ingredients.
  • Slit each slice of apple from one end, along its length, stopping just 1/4 cm away from the other end so that the two halves remain joined at one end.
  • Stuff the filling between these slits of apple slices, carefully.
  • Combine all the ingredients for batter together.
  • Add enough water to form smooth, creamy batter.
  • Heat oil for deep frying.
  • Dip the apple slices in batter, holding the slits together at the open end and drop in hot oil.
  • Fry till they turn golden brown.
  • Drain on kitchen paper and serve hot with Chutney or ketchup.
