Khichiya papad is one of the most popular types of papads in India. They are famous among kids and are eaten as side dish or snack along with the main meal.

These vegetarian papads can be made by sun drying method. The khichiya papads are made up of rice flour unlike others that are made up of pulses. The rice flour is kneaded to make perfect dough along with spices and rolled out to make papads.

Once dried they can be stored for a long time. You can learn how to make them by following our simple step by step recipe instructions.


  • 1 cup - Rice flour
  • 1 ½ cups - water
  • For Masala:
  • ¼ tsp - Cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp - ajwain seeds
  • ½ tsp - papad khar
  • 1 tsp - Ginger chilli paste
  • salt to taste
  • How to Make Khichiya Papad:

    1. Boil the water. Add all the masalas to the boiling water.
    2. Allow to boil for another 2-3 minutes.
    3. Pour the boiling water in a thali containing rice flour.
    4. Bind to a dough after cooling down a little.
    5. Steam the dough by spreading the dough in a thali and then placing the thali on a stand in a large vessel filled with water.
    6. When cool form into balls.
    7. Roll out thin puris on the rolling board with the help of rolling pin.
    8. Dry them in sunlight.
    9. Deep fry and serve with rice and curries.
