Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200 ml) - water
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp - jeera (cumin seeds) powder
  • 1/4 tsp - fenugreek powder (methi / uluva podi)
  • 1/4 tsp - fennel powder or 1/2 tsp - fennel seeds
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 6 cloves -chopped garlic
  • 1/2 tsp - chopped ginger
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - lemon grass (optional)
  • 75 ml - thick coconut milk
  • 2 tsp - lemon juice

How to Make Kiri Hodi

  • Cover and boil water with all the other ingredients except coconut milk and lemon juice for 15 minutes.
  • Switch off the heat. Keep aside to cool for 15 minutes.
  • Finally add coconut milk and lemon juice.
  • Serve with idiyappam (string hoppers)/ghee rice/plain rice.
