Ingredients

  • 2 - Leeks (chopped)
  • 2 - Tomatoes
  • 1 tsp - Sambar powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Coriander powder
  • A few Curry leaves
  • 1 cup - Cooked Toor Dal
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad Dal
  • 3 - Dry Red Chillies
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafetida powder
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • 1 tsp - Lemon juice
  • How to Make Leek and Tomato Sambar:

    1. Heat enough oil; splutter the mustard seeds, urad dal, and cumin seeds.
    2. Fry the dry red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida powder, until they turn brown.
    3. Add the leeks, tomatoes, and salt and saute everything until the vegetables shrink.
    4. Now add the cooked toor dal, sambar powder, coriander powder, salt and enough water, and bring everything to boil.
    5. Cook the sambar on simmer until the vegetables are well cooked.
    6. Add the lemon juice and remove from flame.
    7. Serve with papads and rice.
