Ingredients

  • 2 cups - lima beans(soaked overnight)
  • 1/2 cup - coconut milk, approx.
  • 1 - big onion, chopped
  • 1 /2 tbsp - ginger garlic paste
  • 15 - chopped or canned chopped tomato
  • Maharashtrian kala masala
  • mustard seeds, methi seeds for tadka
  • 1 tbsp- haldi, dhania, jeera powder, red chilli powder, jaggery (optional)

How to Make Lima Beans (Pavta) Curry

  • Soak lima beans in enough water overnight.
  • Put about 2 tbsp oil in kadai. Add mustard seeds, methi seeds.
  • Let them splutter, then add half of the chopped onion and fry till soft.
  • Add remaining onion and fry until golden brown, add ginger garlic paste and fry.
  • Add haldi, dhania, jeera powder, kala masala or garam masala, red chilli powder fry for few seconds.
  • Add lima beans, coconut milk.
  • If necessary add some water .
  • Add chopped tomatoes and salt. Cover and cook.
  • Check the consistency and add water if it is too dry.
  • Consistency should be of gravy so add a little water if beans are not cooked yet.
  • Beans should be soft but not mashed.
  • Add jaggery if required. Enjoy with phulkas and rice.
