Ingredients

  • 2 cups - lima beans(soaked overnight)
  • 1/2 cup - Coconut milk, approx.
  • 1 - big onion, chopped
  • 1 /2 tbsp - Ginger Garlic paste
  • 15 - chopped or canned chopped Tomato
  • Maharashtrian kala masala
  • mustard seeds, Methi seeds for tadka
  • 1 tbsp- haldi, dhania, Jeera powder, Red Chilli powder, Jaggery (optional)
  • salt
  • oil
  • How to Make Lima Beans (Pavta) Curry:

    1. Soak lima beans in enough water overnight.
    2. Put about 2 tbsp oil in kadai. Add mustard seeds, methi seeds.
    3. Let them splutter, then add half of the chopped onion and fry till soft.
    4. Add remaining onion and fry until golden brown, add ginger garlic paste and fry.
    5. Add haldi, dhania, jeera powder, kala masala or garam masala, red chilli powder fry for few seconds.
    6. Add lima beans, coconut milk.
    7. If necessary add some water .
    8. Add chopped tomatoes and salt. Cover and cook.
    9. Check the consistency and add water if it is too dry.
    10. Consistency should be of gravy so add a little water if beans are not cooked yet.
    11. Beans should be soft but not mashed.
    12. Add jaggery if required. Enjoy with phulkas and rice.
