Ingredients

  • 500 g - hilsa fish
  • 4 - 6 tsp - mustard seed
  • 2 - 4 - green chillies
  • 1 tsp - kalonjee (onion seed)
  • 2 tbsp - mustard oil
  • 2 tbsp - curd
  • 1 tsp -turmeric powder
  • 2 - 4 cloves- garlic
  • salt

How to Make Macha Jhal (Hilsa Fish with Mustard Paste)

  • Clean and wash the fish.
  • Cut the fish into 1 cm thick slices.
  • Coat with salt and turmeric powder.
  • Grind mustard seeds and green chillies into a fine paste.
  • Blend curd and keep aside.
  • Now add mustard paste, curd, and shredded garlic cloves to the fish and marinate it for half an hour.
  • Heat oil, add kalonjee then add marinated fish, slit green chillies and 2 cups of water into it.
  • Cook it on low flame till fish becomes tender.
  • Serve hot with plain rice.
