  • 1/2 kg - mackerel
  • 1 cup - coconut grated
  • small piece of ginger, sliced thinly
  • 4 flakes - garlic sliced thinly
  • 2 - green chillies
  • a lot of curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tbsp - turmeric
  • 1/2 tbsp - cumin powder
  • juice of tamarind - lemon sized
  • For grinding:
  • Grind the above 1 cup of coconut grated with 1/2 tbsp of turmeric finely
  • For seasoning:
  • Cut onions into small bits
  • mustard
  • oil

How to Make Mackerel in Coconut Gravy

  • Clean the fish and cut each fish to two pieces.
  • Now add 3 cups of water to the coconut ground and add the ginger, garlic, green chillies, red chilli powder, cumin powder and tamarind juice to it.
  • Finally the curry leaves.
  • Let this mixture boil nicely.
  • Once boiled, add the fish pieces and cover till the fish is done.
  • When the fish is done, now add the seasoning.
  • Heat oil and add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add onions and brown it.
  • Add this mixture over the fish.
  • Excellent with hot basmati rice.
