Ingredients

  • 2 cups - dal
  • 2 - tomato | 1 cup - boiled peas
  • 1 cup - finely sliced onions
  • 2 - dry red chillies
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - ginger paste
  • 1 tsp - chopped coriander leaves
  • A pinch of asafetida
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry

How to Make Masala Dhal

  • Boil the dal and keep it aside.
  • Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a kadai. Add the mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  • Add the dry red chillies and onions.
  • Saute the onions. Add ginger paste.
  • Put the tomatoes in boiling water for 10 minutes.
  • Peel off the skin and cut the tomatoes into small pieces.
  • Add the tomatoes and boiled peas to the onions. Add the dal and one cup of water.
  • To this, add the chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt. Cook for 5 to 10 mins.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
