  • 250 gms - Plain flour
  • 6 tbsp - Oil
  • 4 tbsp - Yoghurt
  • 1 tsp - Salt
  • 1 tsp - Red chilli powder
  • For the masala:
  • 1.5 tbsp - Sesame seeds (white)
  • 1.5 tbsp - Sesame seeds (black)
  • 1 tsp - Ajwain (carum seeds)
  • 1 tbsp - Onion seeds
  • 1 tsp - Asafoetida
  • Oil for deep frying

How to Make Masala Puri

  • Dry roast the ingredients for masala in a pan on slow fire till it starts to emit an aroma.
  • In a bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, plain flour, salt, red chilli powder and the roasted masala.
  • Add oil and yoghurt and mix well.
  • Add enough water to form a medium hard dough. Keep aside for 1 hour.
  • Make balls, the size of walnuts. Keep aside for 30 mins.
  • Roll out each ball to about 4/5" diameter discs.
  • Deep fry in hot oil. Once you lower the puris into oil, it will sink and then rise. At that time, swish oil on the top side of the puri.
  • This will enable it to puff up well. Flip over and fry the other side as well.
