Ingredients

  • 1 cup - masoor dal
  • 1 cup - tuvar dal
  • 2 - small zucchinis (cut into small cubes)
  • 2 - onions (finely sliced)
  • 7 - garlic pods (finely sliced)
  • 1 - small piece of ginger
  • 4 - tomatoes (cut into big cubes)
  • A few curry leaves
  • 5 - green chillies (finely sliced)
  • 5 tsps - ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Garnish:
  • 1 tsp - jeera (cumin seeds)
  • 1 tsp - rai (mustard seeds)
  • A sprig of coriander (dhaniya leaves)
  • 1/2 tsp - chaat masala
  • Few drops of lemon juice

How to Make Masoor and Tuvar Dal With Zucchini

  • Pressure cook the two dals with a little turmeric, salt, green chillies, few tsps of ghee, ginger, curry leaves and garlic for about 20 minutes.
  • In a frying pan heat ghee.
  • Add jeera and rai. When they start spluttering, add onion and fry till light brown.
  • Add zucchini and fry till it becomes soft.
  • Add tomatoes and continue frying.
  • When the ghee separates from the masala, add the cooked dal.
  • Add a little water if needed.
  • Cook for about 5 minutes. Mix well.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander, chaat masala and lemon juice.
  • Serve hot with rotis or rice.
