  • 3/4 cup - Toor dal
  • 2- Onion (chopped lengthwise)
  • 2- Tomatoes (chopped )
  • 2- Green chillies
  • 6- Garlic pods (mashed)
  • 1 tsp - Lemon Juice
  • 2 tsp - Coriander leaves chopped
  • For Tempering:
  • 1/4 tsp - Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp - Urad dal
  • 3 - Red chillies
  • 1/4 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafetida powder
  • 2 tsp oil.

How to Make Milagai Killi Sambhar

  • Wash the toor dal thoroughly and pressure cook with turmeric powder until three whistles.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and splutter the mustard seeds, urad dal, red chillies, cumin seeds and asafoetida powder.
  • Now add the finely chopped onion and saute until pink.
  • Then add the tomato pieces and saute until they soften.
  • Next, add the green chillies and mashed garlic pods and fry them for a while.
  • Add water as per taste since the sambar should be watery.
  • Now add the toor dal with salt and boil it. Simmer until the vegetables get cooked.
  • Remove from the stove and add the lemon juice and the coriander leaves to the sambar.
  • Serve hot with rice.
