Ingredients

  • 2 cups - leftover idli batter
  • 1/2 cup - rolled oats (ground coarsely)
  • water if needed
  • 1 cup - onions (chopped lengthwise)
  • 1 tsp - sambar powder
  • 1/2 tsp - garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds + urad dal
  • a few curry leaves
  • oil as needed
  • salt to taste

How to Make Mini Oats Idly Fry

  • Mix the rolled oats to the idli batter, add water if needed and keep aside for a few minutes.
  • Grease the mini idli plates with oil. Pour enough idli-oats batter and steam-cook for about 10 minutes in an idli cooker.
  • When the idlis are done, remove carefully with a spoon and keep aside.
  • Heat enough oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
  • When the seeds splutter, add the onions and saute until translucent.
  • Now add the idlis, sambar powder, garam masala powder and salt and simmer until the idlis are well coated with the spice powder. Serve hot.
