Ingredients

  • toor dal - 1/2 cup
  • channa dal - 1/2 cup
  • moong dal - 1/2 cup
  • chopped tomato - 1/2 cup
  • green chillies - 2, slit
  • chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
  • ready to use tamarind paste - 1 tsp
  • ghee or oil - 2 tbsp
  • cloves - 3
  • cardamoms - 3
  • finely chopped onion - 1/2 cup
  • ginger-garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • coriander leaves - 2 tbsp, chopped
  • salt to taste

How to Make Mixed Masala Dal

  • Wash all the dals together and add 2.5 cups of water.
  • Add all the ingredients from tomato to salt.
  • Pressure cook for 20 mins.
  • Then, open the cooker and mash the dal till smooth.
  • Add tamarind paste.
  • If the dal is too thick, add some water.
  • Heat the ghee or oil in a small fry pan.
  • Add cloves and cardamoms.
  • Add onion and fry till golden brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and fry till fragrant.
  • Add the contents of the fry pan to the dal.
  • Mix well and simmer for 2-3 mins.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice or chapatti.
