A highly nutritious, protein rich curry that is made with mochai/field beans is 'Mochai Kurma' recipe. Field beans are loaded with a variety of vitamins, proteins and lots of soluble fibers. 

It is an authentic, mouth-watering kurma (curry) recipe from Karnataka that is made easily with minimal ingredients - grated coconut, mustard and green chillies along with the main ingredients. The pressure cooked soft mochai is then blended with rich, flavourful masalas. This thick, tasty curry goes well with roti and rice.

Ingredients

  • Mochai/Field Beans-1 cup
  • Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder-1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder-1/2 tsp
  • Grated Coconut-1/4 cup
  • Green Chilli-2
  • Cumin-1/2 tsp
  • Mustard-1/4 tsp
  • Oil-2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves-a few
  • How to Make Mochai Kurma:

    1. Soak mochai/field beans over night. In the morning, pressure cook it for 3 whistles.
    2. Transfer the cooked mochai to a pan. Add some water and then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and garam masala.
    3. In a blender add cumin, grated coconut and green chillies. Grind to a smooth paste.
    4. Add this to the cooked mochai. Add salt and cook till raw smell goes away.
    5. Temper with mustard and oil and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rotis and rice.
