  • For the Coconut paste:
  • 1/2 cup - grated Coconut
  • 3/4 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp - water
  • For the seasoning:
  • 2 tsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 spring - Curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup - green lentils (cooked)
  • How to Make Mooga Gashi or Green Gram Gashi:

    1. Boil again cooked green lentils with 1 small darbyasole for 5 minutes on a low heat.
    2. Grind the ingredients under "for the coconut paste" and add to the cooked green lentils and mix well.
    3. Adjust salt and extra 1/4 cup (50 ml) water if you required.
    4. Gashi should be of pouring in consistency. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 minutes.
    5. For the seasoning:
    6. In a small frying pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds.
    7. When they begin to pop, add curry leaves and fry for 2 - 3 minutes till crisp.
    8. Pour this seasoning over gashi and serve with rice.
