  • For the Coconut paste:
  • 1/2 cup - grated coconut
  • 3/4 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp - water
  • For the seasoning:
  • 2 tsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 spring - curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup - green lentils (cooked)

How to Make Mooga Gashi or Green Gram Gashi

  • Boil again cooked green lentils with 1 small darbyasole for 5 minutes on a low heat.
  • Grind the ingredients under "for the coconut paste" and add to the cooked green lentils and mix well.
  • Adjust salt and extra 1/4 cup (50 ml) water if you required.
  • Gashi should be of pouring in consistency. Cover and cook on low heat for 10 minutes.
  • For the seasoning:
  • In a small frying pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds.
  • When they begin to pop, add curry leaves and fry for 2 - 3 minutes till crisp.
  • Pour this seasoning over gashi and serve with rice.
