Ingredients

  • 5 cups - buttermilk
  • 1/2 - coconut, grated
  • 1 tbsp - cumin seeds
  • 1 inch piece - ginger
  • 4 - green chillies, slitted
  • 4 - red chillies
  • 1 tbsp - gram flour
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 50 gms each - potatoes, pumpkin and French beans
  • 1 - drumstick
  • 1 - raw banana
  • A few curry leaves
  • 1 tsp each - mustard seeds and urad dal
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Moru Kolumbu

  • Peel and cut all the vegetables into 1 inch pieces. 
  • Grind coconut, cumin seeds, ginger and red chillies to a paste
  • Mix gramflour into the buttermilk.
  • Add salt and turmeric powder into the vegetables with very little water and cook till almost done, add the ground paste and curry leaves and continue cooking till the vegetables are done.
  • Pour in buttermilk and bring slowly to a boil.
  • Remove from fire. 
  • Dry roast mustard and urad dal to a red colour and put into the kolumbo.
