Ingredients

  • 6 - dried red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp - oil
  • 10 - shallots (sambar onions), cut into 2 slices
  • 1/2 tsp - salt

How to Make Mulak Ulli Chutney - Chammanthi

  • Heat oil in an iron kadai - frying pan.
  • Add dried red chillies and fry till crisp on a low to medium heat (approximate frying time 8 - 10 minutes).
  • Remove from the pan and keep aside.
  • Heat 1/2 tsp oil and fry sliced onions till light pink in colour on a low to medium heat.
  • Transfer the fried red chillies into a mixer bowl and make a paste.
  • Then add salt and shallow fried shallot slices.
  • Make a smooth paste without adding water.
  • Serve chutney with Idli, dosa, boiled tapioca, kanji.
