  • 6 - Dried red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp - oil
  • 10 - Shallots (sambar onions), cut into 2 slices
  • 1/2 tsp - salt
  • How to Make Mulak Ulli Chutney - Chammanthi:

    1. Heat oil in an iron kadai - frying pan.
    2. Add dried red chillies and fry till crisp on a low to medium heat (approximate frying time 8 - 10 minutes).
    3. Remove from the pan and keep aside.
    4. Heat 1/2 tsp oil and fry sliced onions till light pink in colour on a low to medium heat.
    5. Transfer the fried red chillies into a mixer bowl and make a paste.
    6. Then add salt and shallow fried shallot slices.
    7. Make a smooth paste without adding water.
    8. Serve chutney with Idli, dosa, boiled tapioca, kanji.
