Ingredients

  • Chicken or Mutton (boneless) - 500 gms
  • Large onion, chopped - 1
  • Garlic Cloves - 2
  • Coconut Milk (optional) - 1 cup
  • Chicken stock/stock cubes dissolved in 2 cups of water - 2 cups
  • Lemon juice - 2 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Make paste of:
  • Ginger - 1
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Poppy Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  • Peppercorns - 10
  • Red Chilli (dry) or to taste - 6
  • Lemon wedges to garnish
  • Boiled Rice for garnish (optional)
  • How to Make Mulligatawny Soup:

    1. Clean and boil the chicken or mutton until tender.
    2. Blend into puree, adding water as required. Strain.
    3. Heat oil. Add onions and garlic and saute until golden brown.
    4. Add the paste and saute for 1 min.
    5. Pour the strained soup alongwith chicken stock and coconut milk and bring to a boil.
    6. Sprinkle lemon juice and serve hot.
    7. Garnished with rice and lemon wedges.
