Ingredients

  • Chicken or mutton (boneless) - 500 gms
  • Large onion, chopped - 1
  • Garlic cloves - 2
  • Coconut milk (optional) - 1 cup
  • Chicken stock/stock cubes dissolved in 2 cups of water - 2 cups
  • Lemon juice - 2 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Make paste of:
  • Ginger - 1
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Poppy seeds - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  • Peppercorns - 10
  • Red chilli (dry) or to taste - 6
  • Lemon wedges to garnish
  • Boiled rice for garnish (optional)

How to Make Mulligatawny Soup

  • Clean and boil the chicken or mutton until tender.
  • Blend into puree, adding water as required. Strain.
  • Heat oil. Add onions and garlic and saute until golden brown.
  • Add the paste and saute for 1 min.
  • Pour the strained soup alongwith chicken stock and coconut milk and bring to a boil.
  • Sprinkle lemon juice and serve hot.
  • Garnished with rice and lemon wedges.
