Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Red Rice flakes/ Sivappu Aval
  • 1/4 cup - Button Mushrooms (chopped)
  • 1 - Onion (big and chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp - Channa dal
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 2 - Dry Red Chillies
  • 2 - Green chillies (chopped)
  • A few - Curry leaves
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • How to Make Mushroom and Red Rice Flakes Upma:

    1. Soak the red rice flakes in water for a few seconds and drain the water completely. Keep aside.
    2. Heat enough oil. Splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
    3. Immediately add the chopped onions, chopped green chilies and cook until the onions turns translucent.
    4. Now, add the chopped mushroom.
    5. Saute them for a few seconds.
    6. Finally, add the turmeric powder and salt.
    7. Add the already washed red rice flakes.
    8. Cook everything on a medium flame for a few minutes and turn off the stove.
    9. Serve warm with some spicy coconut chutney.
