Ingredients

  • Split peas - 200 g
  • Onion - 1 (chopped)
  • Tomato -1 large (chopped finely)
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
  • Ginger - 1 small piece finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 to 3 flakes (finely cut)
  • Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Water - 1 or 2 cups
  • For masala:-
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

How to Make Mushy Peas

  • Wash and cook the peas in a cooker.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and cumin seeds.
  • When they start sputtering add the onions. Fry till soft.
  • Add the garlic and chillies. Fry for a few minutes on low flame.
  • Add the tomatoes and masala. Fry for a few more minutes.
  • Mash the boiled peas well. Add to the pan with a little water (depending on the consistency you want), salt and cook for a few minutes.
  • Remove from the flame when it starts bubbling.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve with hot rotis or rice.
