Split peas - 200 g
Onion - 1 (chopped)
Tomato -1 large (chopped finely)
Green chillies - 2
Finely chopped coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
Ginger - 1 small piece finely chopped
Garlic - 2 to 3 flakes (finely cut)
Salt to taste
Water - 1 or 2 cups
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Garam Masala - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
How to Make Mushy Peas
Wash and cook the peas in a cooker.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and cumin seeds.
When they start sputtering add the onions. Fry till soft.
Add the garlic and chillies. Fry for a few minutes on low flame.
Add the tomatoes and masala. Fry for a few more minutes.
Mash the boiled peas well. Add to the pan with a little water (depending on the consistency you want), salt and cook for a few minutes.
Remove from the flame when it starts bubbling.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve with hot rotis or rice.
