  • 1/4 kg- Mutton pieces
  • 8-10- dried Kashmiri chillies
  • 1/2 tsp- Cumin seeds
  • 12- peppercorns
  • 3- Garlic Cloves
  • 1/2 inch piece- Ginger
  • 1 tsp- Turmeric powder
  • 2- onions, chopped
  • 2- big tomatoes, skinned and chopped
  • 1 tsp- Sugar
  • 1/2 cup- Tamarind water
  • Vinegar to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Mutton Bafat:

    1. Grind together the chillies, cumin, peppercorns, garlic and ginger.
    2. Mix in the turmeric.
    3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and fry the onions till light brown.
    4. Add the tomatoes and stir a bit.
    5. Add mutton and fry for a minute. Add the masala and tamarind.
    6. Cover and cook until mutton is cooked (approx. 1 hour till meat is tender).
    7. Add water whenever required. Add sugar and vinegar too.
    8. Pressure cook again for one whistle after adding required water.
    9. Garnish with coriander leaves.
    10. Serve hot.
