Ingredients

  • 1 Garlic bulb
  • 10-12 small Onions or Shallots
  • 15-20 fresh red or green hot chillies
  • 3 ripe Tomatoes
  • 1 Brinjal (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Tamarind pulp
  • 2 tbsp soft brown or palm Sugar
  • 1 tbsp soya sauce
  • 1 tsp or more salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • How to Make Nam Prik with Brinjal:

    1. Rub onions, tomatoes, garlic bulb, chillies and brinjal with some oil.
    2. Place in an oven-proof dish and broil in preheated oven till soft at 200 degree C for 5 mins.
    3. Peel off garlic skins and de-stalk chillies. Add all other ingredients except oil.
    4. Run in a small blender to get a smooth paste.
    5. Heat oil and add paste and stir fry for 2-3 mins.
    6. Bottle it or use as required.
    7. Keep refrigerated for further use.
    8. Serve as a dipping sauce for vegetable fingers, crudites, soup sticks etc.
