  • 6 slices - day-old white bread, crust removed
  • 2 tbsp - reduced calorie margarine, melted
  • Sugar substitute to equal 3/4 cup sugar, divided
  • 1 tsp - ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup - seedless raisins
  • Vegetable cooking spray
  • 4 - eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups - skimmed milk
  • 1 tsp - vanilla extract

How to Make Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding

  • Brush bread lightly with melted margarine.
  • Sprinkle with 1 tsp sugar substitute and cinnamon.
  • Quarter each bread slice. Layer with raisins in a 1.5 quart casserole dish coated with cooking spray.
  • Set dish aside.
  • Combine eggs, milk, vanilla, and remaining 2 tsps sugar substitute.
  • Pour over bread and raisins in dish.
  • Place dish in a pan containing 1 inch of hot water.
  • Bake at 350 degrees C for 55 mins to 1 hour or until a knife inserted in centre comes out clean.
  • Serve warm, or cover and refrigerate until chilled.
