How to Make Onion Focaccia

  • Mix the sugar, salt and yeast in lukewarm water and rest for 5 minutes.

  • Coat a deep bowl with olive oil and place the soft dough and brush with more oil.
  • Cover and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place. After an hour it will almost double in size.
  • Place the dough in a round baking pan. Mix both the dry basil leaves with 1 tsp of olive oil and apply a few drops to the dough and flatten it. Rest for 1 more hour.
  • Meanwhile, heat a tsp of oil and saute chopped onion and crushed garlic until they turn translucent. Keep aside.
  • Return to the dough and press with your fingertips and drizzle some oil.
  • Spread the Sauteed onion and garlic pieces over the dough.
  • Preheat the oven to 475 Fahrenheit, place the baking pan on middle rack and bake for 15 minutes till the dough turns slightly brown.
  • Serve with cream cheese and salads.
