How to Make Onion Focaccia
Mix the sugar, salt and yeast in lukewarm water and rest for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, take the all-purpose flour in a mixing bowl and add the foaming yeast. Mix everything well and transfer to lightly floured surface and knead to form soft dough.
Coat a deep bowl with olive oil and place the soft dough and brush with more oil.
Cover and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place. After an hour it will almost double in size.
Place the dough in a round baking pan. Mix both the dry basil leaves with 1 tsp of olive oil and apply a few drops to the dough and flatten it. Rest for 1 more hour.
Meanwhile, heat a tsp of oil and saute chopped onion and crushed garlic until they turn translucent. Keep aside.
Return to the dough and press with your fingertips and drizzle some oil.
Spread the Sauteed onion and garlic pieces over the dough.
Preheat the oven to 475 Fahrenheit, place the baking pan on middle rack and bake for 15 minutes till the dough turns slightly brown.
Serve with cream cheese and salads.
