Ingredients

  • 1 - onion.
  • 1 - potato.
  • 1 - green chilli.
  • 1 - tomato.
  • 1/4 tsp - cumin seed.
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard seed.
  • 4 slices - bread.
  • a few grains - cashew nuts and raisins.
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder.
  • 1/2 tsp - garam masala.
  • 1 tsp - vegetable oil.
  • salt to taste.

How to Make Pauruti (bread) Upma (Oriya Dish)

  • Chop onion, potato and tomato into small pieces and keep them separately.
  • Cut the green chilli into fine pieces.
  • Cut the bread slices into small pieces of about 1cm x 1cm.
  • Warm a fry pan over low heat and put some oil. When the oil is hot, put the cumin and mustard seeds and fry well.
  • Add the chopped chillies and fry with medium heat. Then add the chopped onions and fry till it turns red.
  • Add the chopped potato and fry well. Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder and stir well.
  • Then add the chopped tomato and cook for 2-3 mins stirring constantly. Add salt to taste. Then add the garam masala powder and mix that well.
  • Add the cashew nuts, raisins and the bread pieces and stir well. Leave for 2-3 mins over medium heat stirring intermittently and your bread upma is ready for breakfast.
  • You can add some sev or mixture for better taste.
