Pepper kashayam drink for cough, as the name suggests, is an excellent remedy to be had at the onset of cough. This family friendly Indian recipe is great for the body and relieves you of cough or phlegm in general. 

It is best to make it at home and drink up piping hot. The drink is made with simple boiling technique that you can learn how to make at home with our recipe guide. 

The drink is a concoction of spices such as coriander powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder, basil leaves and sugar, all of which are boiled well in water. The drink is brown in color and relieves you of common cold and cough in winters. 

Note: To make this kashayam healthier, you could use jaggery instead of sugar and add freshly grated ginger for extra zing.

  • 1 cup - Water
  • 1/2 tsp - Black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Coriander-cumin powder
  • 1and1/2 tsp - Sugar
  • A few fresh basil leaves (optional)

How to Make Pepper kashayam drink for cough

  • Pour water in a small bowl.
  • Add pepper powder, coriander-cumin powder, sugar and basil leaves and mix well with a spoon.
  • Bring this water to a boil and turn off the flame.
  • Filter to remove extra pulp and pour into a cup or a glass.
  • Try to drink it when it is still hot as it is good for the throat.
