Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - chickpea flour.
  • 3/4 to 1 cup - water.
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard seeds.
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric.
  • 1 pinch - asafoetida powder.
  • 2 tbsp - oil.
  • 2 - green chilli.
  • 2 - small pods garlic, cut in small pieces.
  • 1 - small onion (optional).
  • 1 - tomato, cut in small pieces.
  • 1/2 tsp - red chilli powder.
  • Salt to taste.
  • 2 cups - water.

How to Make Pithale (Marathi Dish)

  • Mix chickpea flour in 1/2 cup water to make smooth watery paste.
  • When the mustard seeds splutters, add asafoetida powder, turmeric, green chilli, onion and garlic.
  • Fry till onion becomes pink. Add tomato and let it cook for a minute.
  • Add hot water, salt, red chilli powder and stir well.
  • When the water starts boiling, add besan paste slowly, continuously stirring the water.
  • Cook till it becomes thick.
  • Serve hot. |
