Ingredients

  • 1 cup - urad dal.
  • 2 cups - rice.
  • salt according to taste.
  • a pinch of soda.

How to Make Plain Idly

  • Wash and soak the rice and dal separately for about 6 hours.
  • Drain and grind rice coarsely and the dal till it is light and frothy.
  • Mix together dal, rice, soda and little water, salt and set aside for the whole night.
  • Steam and serve with sambar poured over the top.
