Ingredients

  • Juice from 1 lime
  • Rice - 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • For seasoning:
  • A few curry leaves
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Cashew nut - 4 to 5
  • Peanuts - 1 tbsp
  • Channa dal - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • A small slice of ginger
  • Garlic - 2 flakes, chopped
  • Oil

How to Make Plain Lemon Rice

  • Boil the rice ensuring that the grains are separate.
  • Boil the peas with little salt.
  • Grind grated coconut with coriander, garlic, ginger and green chillies into a fine paste.
  • Heat the oil in a pan.
  • Add the masala and fry until oil separates.
  • Add the peas and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Remove the rice in a large flat dish.
  • Add salt, lime juice and masala to the rice and mix well.
  • Serve with raita and papad.
