Ingredients

  • 1 cup - uncooked macaroni (small)
  • 1.5 cups - water
  • 1 tsp - oil
  • 2 tbsp - butter
  • 1 - onion (chopped) or 2 spring onions (chopped along with thin green parts)
  • 2.5 tbsp - flour (maida)
  • 1.75 cups - milk
  • 3/4 tsp - salt
  • 1/2 tsp - pepper
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard powder
  • 25 g - cheese (1 cube) - grated
  • 1 tbsp - bread crumbs
  • For Garnish
  • some tomato slices & chopped coriander leaves

How to Make Plain Macaroni Cheese

  • Microwave on high 1.5 cups of water with oil in the dish uncovered for 3 minutes.
  • Add macaroni.
  • Microwave on high uncovered for 5 minutes.
  • Let it stand in hot water for 4-5 minutes.
  • Drain & wash well with cold water.
  • Keep it aside.
  • In the dish, put butter, microwave on high, covered for 1 minute.
  • Add spring onions and microwave on high, covered for 2 minutes.
  • Add flour.
  • Mix well and microwave on high uncovered for 30 seconds.
  • Add milk.
  • Stir well, so that no lumps are formed.
  • Add salt, pepper & microwave on high uncovered for 3 minutes stirring after every minute to avoid lump formation.
  • Microwave on high, uncovered for 1-2 minutes more if the sauce does not turn thick.
  • Add mustard power, boiled macaroni, grated cheese .
  • Mix well.
  • Sprinkle bread crumbs on top.
  • Arrange 2-3 tomato slices and sprinkle a little chopped coriander.
  • Microwave on high uncovered for 2 minutes.
