Ingredients

  • 2 cups - raw Rice
  • 1 cup - Urad Dal
  • 1 cup - pottukadalai/fried gram
  • 150 g - Dalda or Butter
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • A pinch Hing
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Plain Murukku:

    1. Soak the rice for one hour. Drain the water and allow the rice to dry on a cloth for half an hour.
    2. Grind the rice in a blender.
    3. Fry the urad dal in a kadai for 5 mins till the raw smell disappears.
    4. Grind it with pottukadalai.
    5. Mix the flours with butter, hing, cumin seeds, salt and water to make a dough (like chapatti).
    6. Heat oil in the kadai.
    7. Use a presser to make the murukku and fry in the oil.
