Ingredients

  • Basmati Rice - 500 g.
  • Prawns - 2 cups.
  • Tomato - 4.
  • Onion - 3.
  • Green chilli - 8.
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece.
  • Garlic - 6 flakes.
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp.
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp.
  • Coriander leaves - 1 small bunch.
  • Pudina (mint leaves) - a few.
  • Clove - 4.
  • Cardamom - 4.
  • Cashew - 8.
  • Ghee / oil - 4 tbsp.
  • Salt - to taste.
  • How to Make Plain Prawn Biryani:

    1. Wash and soak the rice for 1/2 an hour. Drain it.
    2. Grind ginger, garlic, green chilli, coriander powder, onion and coriander leaves, adding salt, into a paste.
    3. Marinate the cleaned prawns with the paste for 15 mins.
    4. In a pressure cooker, heat ghee / oil.
    5. Add crushed spices, cashews, pudina leaves, chopped onion and saute, till golden brown.
    6. Add the marinated prawn to this, and saute, till the oil separates.
    7. Add the chopped tomatoes and turmeric powder to it. Stir for a few seconds.
    8. Now add rice and water in 1:1.5 cups ratio.
    9. When its starts boiling, close the cooker, and cook in high pressure, for 5-7 mins.
    10. Allow it to cool naturally.
    11. Serve hot with raitha or salad.
