Ingredients

  • 500 gms - prawns.
  • 1/2 kg - Salt.
  • 10 - green chillies.
  • 1 Inch - Ginger.
  • 1 Pod (whole) - Garlic.
  • 1 cup - Vinegar.
  • 1/2 kg - Dry red chillies.
  • 1 tbsp - Jeera/Cumin Seeds.
  • 1/4 tsp - Mustard Seeds.
  • 1/2 tsp - peppercorns.
  • 1 Inch - Turmeric.
  • 1 Inch - Ginger.
  • 2 Pods (whole) - Garlic.
  • 1 cup - Sweet oil/Gingili oil.
  • 5 - Bay Leaves.

How to Make Plain Prawn Pickle

  • Salt the prawns, place them in a vessel with a loose lid and a light weight over the lid.
  • The next day, drain the salted water, and squeeze the prawns.
  • Dry the prawns in the sun for an hour.
  • Fry the prawns in sweet oil, in a flat pan, and keep them aside to cool.
  • Prepare the sliced masala - green chillies, ginger and garlic, and keep aside.
  • Masala:
  • Take a handful of dry red chillies, 1 tbsp cumin seeds, 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp peppercorns, turmeric, ginger and 2 pods of garlic, and grind them with vinegar.
  • Heat some sweet oil, and fry the bay leaves.
  • Add to it the sliced masala of green chillies, ginger and garlic.
  • Then add the ground masala and fry.
  • Finally add fried prawns and simmer till the gravy is thick, and the prawns are cooked.
