Ingredients

  • 2 - red bell peppers
  • 2 - red chillies
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 1.5 tsp - channa dal
  • 1 tsp - urad dal
  • A handful of peanuts
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - methi seeds
  • Pinch of Asafoetida
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp - lemon juice

How to Make Plain Red Pepper Chutney

  • Cut the peppers into small pieces.
  • Heat 1.5 tbsp of oil in a sauce pan, add all the seeds and fry in order (so that all get fried evenly) - peanuts, channa dal, urad dal, methi seeds, red chillies, mustard seeds, asafoetida and turmeric.
  • Then add the cut pepper pieces to it, add salt and cover the pan with a lid.
  • Let it fry for 5 min (till the pepper is moderately soft). Let this cool.
  • When it is cool enough to be put in a blender, blend the mixture together with the lemon juice.
  • Serve with rice.
