  • 2 - red bell peppers
  • 2 - Red Chillies
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 1.5 tsp - Channa dal
  • 1 tsp - Urad Dal
  • A handful of Peanuts
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Methi seeds
  • Pinch of Asafoetida
  • Pinch of Turmeric
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp - Lemon juice
  • How to Make Plain Red Pepper Chutney:

    1. Cut the peppers into small pieces.
    2. Heat 1.5 tbsp of oil in a sauce pan, add all the seeds and fry in order (so that all get fried evenly) - peanuts, channa dal, urad dal, methi seeds, red chillies, mustard seeds, asafoetida and turmeric.
    3. Then add the cut pepper pieces to it, add salt and cover the pan with a lid.
    4. Let it fry for 5 min (till the pepper is moderately soft). Let this cool.
    5. When it is cool enough to be put in a blender, blend the mixture together with the lemon juice.
    6. Serve with rice.
