Ingredients

  • 1 cup - channa dal
  • 1 cup - thinly sliced onions
  • 1 tbsp - finely chopped fenugreek leaves or dill leaves
  • 1 piece - cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 - cardamoms
  • 2 - cloves
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - pepper powder
  • 1 tsp - lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp - sugar
  • 2 tbsp - ghee
  • salt - to taste

How to Make Plain Sukhi Channa Dal

  • Clean and soak dal for 15 mins. Boil with turmeric powder and salt with 5 cups water till soft and drain the water.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and add cinnamon, cardamom, clove, cumin seeds.
  • Add onions and fry till light brown.
  • Add dal, sugar, pepper powder, lemon juice, bay leaves and fenugreek leaves.
  • Stir gently. Do not mash up dal too much.
  • Serve hot with paratha, naan, rice etc.
