Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - rice.
  • 125 gm - green gram (moong dal).
  • 4 cups - yoghurt.
  • 1 tbsp - cumin seeds.
  • 2 tbsp - ginger paste.
  • 3 bunches - curry leaves.
  • 3 - chillies.
  • 2 tsp - pepper powder.
  • 2 tbsp - ghee.
  • salt.

How to Make Pongali

  • Wash and soak rice and moong dal for 30 minus. Add 4 cups of water to yogurt and mix well to make buttermilk.
  • Add ghee to pressure cooker, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, chillies, ginger paste, pepper powder, salt.
  • Now add drained rice, moong dal and buttermilk. Close the lid and cook up to 2 whistles.
  • Now shift the cooker from flame and set aside until cool. Pongola rice is ready.
