Ingredients

  • 1 cup - poppy seed
  • 1 cup - Milk
  • 3 - eggs, separated
  • 1 cup - unsalted Butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup - white Sugar
  • 1 cup - Brown sugar
  • 1-3 tbsp - real maple syrup
  • 2 cups - sifted flour
  • 2 tsp - real vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp - baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp - salt
  • 2 tbsp - sour Cream
  • How to Make Poppy Seed Cake:

    1. Grease and lightly flour one bundt pan or two loaf pans.
    2. Combine seeds with milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
    3. Turn off heat and cover till seeds absorb the milk. (The milk will not be completely absorbed).
    4. Add cream, butter and sugar till fluffy. Add vanilla, egg yolks and seeds with milk mixture.
    5. Add maple syrup if using. Add sour cream.
    6. Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Stir and do not overbeat.
    7. Beat egg whites till stiff but not dry. Fold gently into batter.
    8. Pour batter into pan.
    9. Bake for 45-50 mins. Serve with whipped cream, strawberries or just plain.
