  • 1/2 kg - Potato
  • 2 cup - Maida
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp - Butter
  • oil to deep fry
  • salt to taste
  • How to Make Potato Chakli (Murukku):

    1. Boil the potatoes. Peel and mash (the mashed potato should be very smooth)
    2. Tie the Maida in a thin cloth and steam for 15-20 minutes.
    3. Open the bundle, and break the lump while hot with a ladle.
    4. When it is slightly cooled, powder with fingers and sift.
    5. Mix the sifted Maida with mashed potato.
    6. Add rest of the ingredients except the oil.
    7. Add enough water and make a soft but not sticky dough.
    8. Place some dough in a Chakli mould and press discs of concentric circles on a sheet of plastic.
    9. Fry the chaklis, few at a time in moderately hot oil till crisp.
    10. Cool and store in an air tight container.
