Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups - Basmati rice.
  • 3 - Potatoes (big).
  • 1- Onion.
  • 2 -tomatoes (small).
  • 6 cloves - Garlic.
  • a small piece - Ginger.
  • 3 - green Chillies.
  • 1 tbsp - Jeera.
  • 1 pinch -Turmeric powder.
  • 1/2 tbsp - Chilli powder.
  • 1/2 tbsp - Masala powder.
  • 10 - Cashew nuts.
  • a small bunch - Curry leaves & cilantro.
  • Salt.
  • 3 tbsp - ghee.

How to Make Potato Jeera rice

  • In a pan, add a little ghee and fry the rice till it becomes slightly brown and keep it aside.
  • Again in a pan, add 1 tbsp of oil, fry the jeera and keep aside.
  • Cut the potatoes in the shape of French fries.
  • Chop the onions and tomatoes.
  • In a frying pan, add 1 tbsp of ghee, add the onion, when it turns slightly golden brown add tomatoes and let it cook for a while.
  • Make a paste of garlic, ginger, chillies and add that to the vegetables.
  • Finally add the potatoes and let it cook for another 6-10 mins.
  • Add, turmeric, chilli powder and salt.
  • In a rice cooker, pour 2 tbsps ghee and the cooked vegetables and the rice with 1.5 cups of water.
  • Add masala powder (1/2 tsp) and fried jeera.
  • When the rice is done, add fried cashew nuts and chopped curry and cilantro leaves.
  • Serve it with green pepper raitha.
