Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg - medium-sized prawns
  • 1 tbsp - garlic paste
  • 10 - red chillies
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - cloves
  • 1 tbsp - ginger paste
  • 4 pieces - cinnamon
  • 1 tsp - black peppercorns
  • 1 tbsp - goon palm feni or white rum
  • 1 tbsp - vinegar
  • 3 tbsp - dried prawn powder
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 3 onions1 tsp - sugar
  • salt to taste

How to Make Prawn Balchao

  • Grind garlic, red chillies, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and black peppercorns to a paste.
  • Add feni (or white rum), vinegar, and prawns powder to the paste.
  • Saute chopped onions in oil till brown.
  • Add prawns to the brown onions and saute till the prawns change colour.
  • Add sugar and salt and stir till sugar dissolves completely.
  • Add prepared paste and stir briskly.
  • Cook for a minute.
  • Serve with rice or rotis.
