Prawn Patias or Prawn Pathias is a dish inspired by the traditional Pathia, a Parsi-style curry that is hot, sweet, and sour. Chillies, lime, jaggery and tamarind are generally used in Pathia for balance of flavours.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup - peeled prawns
  • small piece - ginger
  • 6 flakes - garlic
  • 1 tsp - cumin
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 1/2 cup - onions, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tbsp - sambar powder
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tbsp - tamarind juice
  • 1/2 tsp - jaggery
  • salt to taste

How to Make Prawn Patias

  • Grind ginger, garlic and cumin together.
  • Combine oil and onions, cook on hi for 3-4 minutes, stirring twice.
  • Add the ground masala, cook 1 more minute. Add tomatoes, cook for 3 minutes.
  • Add the prawns, cook covered for 3-4 minutes, stirring once.
  • Add sambar powder, green chilies, salt and tamarind juice and jaggery (optional).
  • Cook covered for 2 minutes. Serve with steamed rice, garnished with coriander leaves.
