Prawn Patias or Prawn Pathias is a dish inspired by the traditional Pathia, a Parsi-style curry that is hot, sweet, and sour. Chillies, lime, jaggery and tamarind are generally used in Pathia for balance of flavours.
Ingredients
- 1 cup - peeled prawns
- small piece - ginger
- 6 flakes - garlic
- 1 tsp - cumin
- 2 tbsp - oil
- 1/2 cup - onions, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 tbsp - sambar powder
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tbsp - tamarind juice
- 1/2 tsp - jaggery
- salt to taste
How to Make Prawn Patias
- Grind ginger, garlic and cumin together.
- Combine oil and onions, cook on hi for 3-4 minutes, stirring twice.
- Add the ground masala, cook 1 more minute. Add tomatoes, cook for 3 minutes.
- Add the prawns, cook covered for 3-4 minutes, stirring once.
- Add sambar powder, green chilies, salt and tamarind juice and jaggery (optional).
- Cook covered for 2 minutes. Serve with steamed rice, garnished with coriander leaves.
