Ingredients

  • 1 cup - mint leaves, chopped.
  • 2 - green chillies, slit.
  • 1/2 tsp - chilli powder.
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder.
  • 1/2 tsp - cumin powder.
  • 1/2 cup - raw mango, grated.
  • 1/2 cup - cooked tovar dal, mashed.
  • 1/2 tsp - salt.
  • 2 tsp - jaggery powder.
  • 2 tsp - oil or ghee.
  • 1 tsp - mustard.
  • 2 small pieces - cinnamon.
  • 2 - cloves.
  • a few curry leaves.

How to Make Pudina (Mint) Saaru

  • Combine mint leaves with green chillies, all the powders and green mango.
  • Add 4-5 cups of water.
  • Boil and simmer for 5 mins.
  • Stir in the dal. Add salt and jaggery.
  • Simmer for 2 more mins and remove from heat.
  • Heat oil or ghee in a small fry pan.
  • Add mustard. When it splutters, add cinnamon, cloves and curry leaves.
  • Fry for a few seconds and add to the saaru.
  • Serve hot.
