  • 250 g - boiled and peeled potatoes
  • 1 - small onion, minced
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp - urad dal
  • 2 - green chillies, minced
  • handful of coriander leaves
  • a few curry leaves, sliced
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • 1.5 cups - gram flour
  • salt and chilli powder to taste

How to Make Quick Batata Vada

  • Heat 1 tbsp. of oil and put in mustard seeds and dal. When the dal turns red, put in chillies, onion and curry leaves and cook till soft.
  • Add potatoes, salt, turmeric and coriander leaves.
  • Mix well and remove from fire. Cool and form into round balls.
  • Mix together gram flour, asafoetida, salt and chilli powder.
  • Put in enough water to form a thick batter.
  • Dip the balls one by one into the batter and deep fry to a golden brown colour.
  • Drain and serve with chutney of your choice.
