Ingredients

  • 4 slices - white bread
  • 2 - boiled potatoes
  • 1 cup - curd
  • 1 tbsp - ginger-chilli paste
  • 1 - grated onion
  • 2 tsp - hing/asafoetida
  • salt
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds/jeera
  • 4-5 - curry leaves
  • 1 tsp - urad dal

How to Make Quick Bread idli

  • Cut the bread into circular pieces.
  • Mash the potatoes.
  • Add salt, grated onions, 1 tsp hing and ginger-chilli paste to it.
  • Beat the curd into a thick paste.
  • Take a small kadai/pan and heat the oil.
  • Add jeera/cumin seeds, mustard seeds, 1 tsp hing, urad dal and curry leaves to it.
  • After 1 minute, switch off the gas.
  • Pour the contents of the kadai into the curd.
  • Take the circular piece of bread and apply potato paste on it.
  • Apply oil on the potato paste.
  • Put the tawa on a medium-low flame.
  • The piece of bread with potato paste has to be put on the tawa with the side containing the potato paste facing the tawa.
  • On the top of the bread, spread the dahi.
  • Cover the tawa with a big round utensil.
  • And let the bread be on the tawa for 15-20 minutes on medium-low flame.
  • After 15-20 minutes, uncover the tawa and see if the bread idli is ready by inserting a knife in the bread. The knife should come out clean.
