Ingredients

  • 2 tbsps - long grain rice
  • 2 tbsps - poppy seeds (gasagase)
  • 2 cups - milk
  • 1 cup - water
  • 1 block - jaggery (or 10-12 tbsps - brown sugar)
  • 10 tbsps - sugar
  • 1/2 cup - desiccated coconut or dry coconut-kobbari

How to Make Quick Gasagase Payasa

  • Allow milk to boil in a pan at low heat.
  • In another vessel, add jaggery (or brown sugar), sugar and 1 cup water. Boil at medium heat till it becomes thick.
  • Take another pan, dry roast rice and poppy seeds.
  • Grind the fried rice and poppy seeds with coconut into a smooth paste with very little water.
  • Add this fine paste to the thick jaggery syrup and boil for about 10-12 mins.
  • Add this to the boiling milk and boil for about 10 mins.
  • Remove all coarse elements from this liquid by filtering in a drainer or colander.
  • Serve hot or cold.
