Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - Quinoa / varagu arasi
  • 1/4 cup - moong dal
  • 3/4 cup - 1 cup - Jaggery (or as per taste)
  • 1 cup - Milk
  • 1 cup - water + 1/4 cup - of water
  • 1/2 tsp - Cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp - Ghee
  • 1 tbsp - broken cashews or as needed
  • 1 tsp - Raisins
  • How to Make Quinoa sweet pongal - Varagu arisi:

    1. Wash moong dal and quinoa.
    2. Mix it with 1 cup milk and 1 cup water and pressure cook it for 2 whistles on medium heat. You can also cook it in an open pan till it becomes soft.
    3. Open the pan after pressure drops and mash the mixture with a spatula.
    4. In a separate pan, add jaggery and water and boil for 2 minutes.
    5. Remove the jaggery syrup, filter it and add it immediately to the cooked quinoa-dal mixture.
    6. Mix well and cook it on medium - low heat.
    7. Fry cashews and raisins in 2 tbsps ghee.
    8. When pongal mixture starts bubbling, add cardamom and fried cashews and raisins.
    9. Turn off the heat, transfer to a serving bowl and serve.
