  • 3-4 - radishes
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup - Channa dal
  • Turmeric, a pinch
  • For seasoning:
  • 1 tsp - oil
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard
  • For grinding:
  • 2 tbsp - coconut, grated
  • 2 - Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp - cumin/jeera
  • 1 tsp - Rice

How to Make Radish Kootu

  • Cook channa dal in a pressure cooker till soft.
  • Cut the radish pieces into medium, bite-size pieces and place in a heavy-bottomed vessel.
  • Add salt and turmeric powder and enough water to cover the radish.
  • Cook on medium flame till soft. Then add cooked dal.
  • Meanwhile grind the grated coconut along with red chillies, jeera and rice to a paste.
  • Add this to the cooked radish and mix well.
  • Temper with mustard seeds, channa dal and curry leaves.
  • Radish kootu is ready to serve with rice.
