Ingredients

  • 3-4 - radishes
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup - Channa dal
  • Turmeric, a pinch
  • For seasoning:
  • 1 tsp - oil
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard
  • For grinding:
  • 2 tbsp - coconut, grated
  • 2 - Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp - cumin/jeera
  • 1 tsp - Rice
  • How to Make Radish Kootu:

    1. Cook channa dal in a pressure cooker till soft.
    2. Cut the radish pieces into medium, bite-size pieces and place in a heavy-bottomed vessel.
    3. Add salt and turmeric powder and enough water to cover the radish.
    4. Cook on medium flame till soft. Then add cooked dal.
    5. Meanwhile grind the grated coconut along with red chillies, jeera and rice to a paste.
    6. Add this to the cooked radish and mix well.
    7. Temper with mustard seeds, channa dal and curry leaves.
    8. Radish kootu is ready to serve with rice.
