How to Make

  • Pressure cook the dal and keep aside
  • Soak tamarind in water and extract the juice
  • Cook the finely chopped banana.
  • When the raw bananas are half cooked, add the tamarind extract, salt, turmeric and sambar powder
  • When the mixture starts to boil add the mashed dhal.
  • Mix the rice flour in a little water and add to the kootu to make it thick and boil for some time
  • In a separate pan, add oil and splutter mustard seeds, add the channa dhal and urad dal and fry till the dal turns brown.
  • Now add the grated coconut and fry till it becomes red colour. Add a pinch of asafoetida.
  • Add these seasoned dhal to the kootu.
