Ingredients

  • Idly batter - 4 cups
  • Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Yellow Pumpkin - 1/2 cup
  • Onion - 4
  • Tomato - 3
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • Hing - little
  • Tamarind pulp - 4 tsps
  • Coriander and Curry leaves - a little
  • Ghee - 2 tsps
  • Salt to taste
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Urad Dal - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tsps
  • Fry and powder:
  • Red Chillies - 6
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  • Channa dal - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Methi seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dry Coconut powder - 1 tsp
  • How to Make Sambar Idly:

    1. Cook dal with turmeric and yellow pumpkin in pressure cooker.
    2. Cut onions and tomatoes.
    3. Splutter mustard in oil and add urad dal and then fry onions and tomatoes after adding salt.
    4. Now add tamarind paste, curry leaves and hing.
    5. Add cooked dal, sambar powder, salt, water, and boil it for 10 mins.
    6. Garnish with coriander.
    7. Meanwhile, steam the idlis.
    8. Then take a dish, arrange the idlis in it and pour the sambar over it.
