Ingredients

  • Idly batter - 4 cups
  • Toor dal - 1/2 cup
  • Yellow pumpkin - 1/2 cup
  • Onion - 4
  • Tomato - 3
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • Hing - little
  • Tamarind pulp - 4 tsps
  • Coriander and curry leaves - a little
  • Ghee - 2 tsps
  • Salt to taste
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tsps
  • Fry and powder:
  • Red chillies - 6
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  • Channa dal - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Methi seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dry coconut powder - 1 tsp

How to Make Sambar Idly

  • Cook dal with turmeric and yellow pumpkin in pressure cooker.
  • Cut onions and tomatoes.
  • Splutter mustard in oil and add urad dal and then fry onions and tomatoes after adding salt.
  • Now add tamarind paste, curry leaves and hing.
  • Add cooked dal, sambar powder, salt, water, and boil it for 10 mins.
  • Garnish with coriander.
  • Meanwhile, steam the idlis.
  • Then take a dish, arrange the idlis in it and pour the sambar over it.
