Ingredients

  • Tamarind - size of a small Lemon
  • 3 tbsp - Sambhar powder
  • 3- Onion
  • 2- Tomato
  • Coriander leaves
  • 7-10 flakes -Garlic
  • 2 tbsp - Toor dhal
  • 3 tbsp - Ghee
  • Mustard.
  • Salt
  • Asafoetida
  • How to Make Sambhar for Idlis:

    1. Pressure cook the dhal and keep separately.
    2. Grind 1 onion + 1 tomato + garlic in mixer and keep separately.
    3. Take 4 glasses of water and extract tamarind juice.
    4. Add sambhar powder and the remaining onions and tomato to it. Allow it to boil well
    5. Once it starts boiling, add the cooked dhal to it.
    6. Once this starts boiling add the onion, tomato, garlic paste to it.
    7. Add salt to taste and asafoetida to it and leave it for sometime.
    8. Heat 3 tsps of ghee in a pan, add mustard to it and allow it to splutter.
    9. Add this to the sambhar and garnish with coriander leaves.
